An overview of the best book I've read on business/tech/China: Apple in China

trade war, supply chain, and the capture of the world's greatest company
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Patrick McGee’s Apple in China so much that I felt compelled to write a synopsis. The book serves as a fantastic litmus test for various macroeconomic topics, including geopolitical trade wars, manufacturing and technology, national security, and their implications for the future.

If I had the money, I would be bidding to buy Perplexity as well. Their chatbot focuses on value. surfacing facts. There isn’t that addictive ‘sticky’ nature and they are also baking in shopping.

Terrific episode. Apple is extraordinary, but mostly for dumbing down computers for non-geeks and convincing people that Apple gear was leading edge because it looked good. They did lead in desktop publishing software for some time. But again, their brilliance was in catering to people who thought, like them, that marketing could cover for technical deficiency. As for Chinese tech brilliance... they are obviously way ahead of the US and every other Western country. But the South Koreans have about 1,000 robots per 10,000 employees and the Chinese have about half that. That says it all.

Francesco Baschieri on building PodSEO and why indie podcasters are still flying blind
On a sunny day in Wasilla, Alaska - MY neck of the woods for a change and five months to the day after launching his newest venture - I sat across from Francesco Baschieri — over pizza and cold beers on his was to see Denali National Park in a quick break in his vacation — to talk about the SEO-shaped hole in podcasting.

Perplexity's moment

Buying Perplexity could finally give Apple AI credibility. Plus: 3 copyright rulings on fair use, Axel Springer puts a ring on AI, and more.
Perplexity may not create foundational AI models, but it's been punching above its weight for most of its existence, quickly becoming the go-to AI search engine for many. With success comes attention, and now it may be at a crossroads, with many speculating that an exit via a Big Tech acquisition might be its best option. The media is playing a role her…
