Today is the 7th anniversary of my grandpa’s death. He was a Lutheran pastor (in MO) who spoke for Civil Rights and against Vietnam, and he faced a lot of backlash for it (lost his call, too).

It’s also my brother AND nephew’s birthday. My brother is a white man and my sister-in-law is a Black woman. Their marriage and family I hope is a sign of the hope and justice so many marched for bravely at Selma.

This is always a heavy + hopeful day. 🙏🏻
