Not so much, Virginia. The book is 20 years old. The concepts are derived from outdated studies and concepts, with the prism being largely European preconceptions. Jared wrote interesting articles on natural history and on topics with limited parameters, not so strong on analysis of human society.

The book I would suggest to get a better sense of how human societies thrive and what factors lead to failure (or not) is "The Dawn of Progress", Graeber & Wengrow. Much more insightful, and will lead you down a delightful and insightful path that is not as based on preconceptions and Diamond's.
