It would be nice if the Popular Vote Interstate Compact were signed on by enough states to work—almost there, tho’ I imagine there might be someone/some state who would object and litigate whether it is ultimately constitutional (SCOTUS decides???? Dunno….). I wonder where, as a country, we might be if Gore & HRC had been POTUS based on their popular vote, as all other democracies handle it. Might have been a game changer….maybe in an alternate universe! I read an interesting article about the appeal of TFFG, but can’t put my finger on it at the moment to share, but it made sense in twisted sort of way (folks deciding by emotion not logic). If I, living in far northern rural coastal CA (just south of OR) can figure out TFFG was a putz before he was elected—his demeanor just screamed “entitled Carney-Barker con man with an attitude”—then I’m surprised more folks didn’t see past the smoke and mirrors. Like what happened w/ how Nader split the ticket as a 3rd party candidate that got us Bush [mea culpa, mea maxima culpa….I voted for him (tho’ in a blue state my particular vote didn’t have impact overall, but still….I learned my lesson!).] I am worried about the 3rd party impact on 2024…called the People’s Party I think (but follow the money, it’s way darker than it appears!) w/ Cornell West (no, dude, don’t do it!) and possibly Andrew Yang (he recently tickled the idea) and others maybe on their ticket…and how it might throw enough votes to tip the scales. In my lifetime there have been “this is the most important election of your life” situations…..but, I think, 2020 certainly was and 2024 will be even MORE pivotal…sigh, hope it’s the last “most important ever” type election and we can get back on an even keel w/o the crazies trying to take control. Months ago I posted here about a telco I’d had w/ a friend calling from So America where he was traveling & wondered what was up in the USA…I filled him in & told him I thought of our government like a spinning top….if it leans TOO far left or right, then it topples over…but some wobble is OK and still stable & keeps spinning. I just hope we keep spinning!
