David, my dad flew transport as an Air Force pilot, stateside, in WWII even tho he was enamored of fighter planes. Many years later his son-in-law a fighter jet pilot in the Air Force (maybe stationed at Edwards AFB in So Cal, not sure) took him on several flights while he was still in-service or in the reserves. It was very moving that when my dad passed in 2001 those many who loved him got to see the missing man formation fly over his funeral….very very moving. My dad was an awesome baseball player in the minor leagues & might have gone pro but the war intervened. His talent was known and he was tagged as a player for the Air Force team….I kinda think that the mucky-mucks in charge wanted him right where he was to play ball, so they stationed him stateside….no fighter planes for him!✈️
