Glowy finds from the seaside woods yesterday. We’ve jumped right into summer here in the upper left hand corner of the country known as the US. It’s a bit too warm too fast here, and far too dry. Our snowpack is paltry and drought is in the forecast for many areas across the nation. Meanwhile, Empire and the zealots continue their demonic campaigns, at the expense of all life. I have reached max capacity for witnessing their vile theatre and the destruction that always lies in their wake.
Some days it’s all I can do, to give myself permission to sit with nature, to lose myself in her for a spell. The urgency I feel now is to imbibe as much beauty as I can, and to share it. To tend our garden, create art and to work hard and be in community with the few others whom my husband and I share this parcel of land with. To love with abandon. Because I know time is relative. Thus it is precious and short, and not to be further squandered.
First, here are salal blossoms, which look exactly like what I’d expect enchanted fairy lanterns to look like, especially when they’re backlit.
The profusion of slender thorns on the stems of this rosa rugosa looked electric, dazzling in a shade that might almost rival its eventual flowers.
Wild honeysuckle blossoms, just beginning to open. I loved the juxtaposition of the vibrant orange against the blue sky and myriad greens of the surrounding woods.
I wish you all a beautiful day. 🌿
