I wasn't referring to the US handing over equipment, although you are probably incorrect about the amount of equipment handed over. For one thing, the massive WW2 stocks that were built in preparation for the invasion of Japan were sent to Korea and (Hi Chi Minh) Vietnam.

Russian pilots flew in the Korean war, Chinese troops fought in Korea and the trains into North Vietnam were very busy even though there was no nation of Vietnam at all (hence no military budget per se) since that polity was a French possession. The US absolutely underwrote the budget of "South Vietnam" for at least a decade much as Russia and China helped "North Vietnam" - read this NYT article from when that MSM actually did reporting: nytimes.com/1975/05/01/…

So no, I disagree with your notion that the present Ukraine situation is unprecedented.
