Make money doing the work you believe in

Maine Senator (for now) Susan Collins said in an interview the other day that she does not believe Canada moving closer to Europe will “help rebuild U.S.-Canada relations.”

What Senator Collins, and so many other American commentators, have failed to understand is that we do not think America is as indispensable as Americans think it is. In other words: we don’t care about rebuilding U.S.-Canada relations - at least as long as President Trump or someone like him is in office.

We are not looking to be America’s enemy - in fact I think all Canadians are hoping for the best result for Americans at the midterm elections, which would be a crushing defeat for MAGA.

If that happens, great. If it does not, then that is unfortunate but we will carry on because we’ve already moved on. Trump’s taunts don’t hurt us, nor do they motivate us to change the course we’ve set for ourselves - greater trade diversification based upon our own great national project.

Even if Democrats win the House and the Senate and successfully impeach Trump and all of his minions and replace them with Gavin Newsom or Pete Buttigieg or someone else reasonable, things will never be the same between our countries again.

We are setting our own course, and while we will always trade with America and we will hopefully resume being geopolitical allies again in the future, we cannot ever trust you the way we used to.
