Thanks for posting this. I think there is a problem with public uptake of these facts. Children and grandchildren of immigrants remember how hard it was for their older generations to get here (e.g. Vietnamese boat people) and to get established here. Some of these people are happy to see others have a really hard time of it. “Nobody cared about us back in those days, why should we care about these people now?”

Some people are happy to believe other people brought all their misfortunes on themselves. They blame the migrant woman who drowned with her two children because it is easier than thinking of two dead innocent children, let alone their desperate mother, who could have been rescued.
