Hi Mitch and EM. You two have introduced an entirely new front in this conversation. Awesome! Persuasion is a great place to tease out some of these threads. Here's something to consider: people's ability to act courageously and effectively depends at least in part on the degree to which they have articulated - for themselves - a coherent stand in the matter at hand. Part of what a movement does is provide a social space in which the articulation of that stand can take shape, be tested, fail, be reshaped, fail differently, be reshaped again and so on until the required actions (and all of the attendant institutional/organizational/financial infrastructure) present themselves as obvious and necessary. Some of that is happening already. I won't tire this space with another 500 words to say some simple thing, but ask yourself, aren't some of the coordinated actions necessary to provide an alternative to The Path of The Elect starting to sprout up here and there? It's a real question The answer might be "No," but I see stuff stirring. At least some of the young converts must be asking themselves if they're really onboard for the soft tyranny they're being shamed to embrace. Fundamentalism is a brittle thing. This one, despite its rapid ascent, or maybe because of it, has particularly shaky foundations.
