Carter was the beginning of the Blue Dogs. He accelerated the Democrats turning away from working people and turning to neo liberalism and taking corporate money. He deregulated the trucking industry and 400,000 jobs were lost. (Check the Tucker Carlson's interview with Teamster president, Sean O'Brien. ) In 1979 the Democrats and Carter got rid of the national ceiling on interest, the Usury law. Debt among most Americans began to rise precipitously. The old wing of the Democratic party with Ted Kennedy challenged him. It looks like the media sided with the uniparty of establishment Dems and Repugs. Reagan came along as somewhat of an opposition to the establishment and more of a libertarian or old school conservatism. But nothing like what we are experiencing now. Not sure what Carter understood or didn't about the dangers of a one world order. At the time I also believed in the "we are the world we are the people" schtick. No longer.
