Live Streaming and Real-Time AI: A New Risk Vector
Live streaming platforms present a specific challenge for child safety that recorded content doesn't.
Moderation of live content in real time is significantly harder than moderation of uploaded video. The volume, the speed, and the ephemerality of live streams mean that harmful content, including contact between adults and children, can occur and disappear before any intervention is possible.
AI moderation tools are improving but are not yet reliable for real-time detection across the scale of platforms like TikTok Live, YouTube Live, or smaller streaming services.
If your child uses any live streaming platform, either as a broadcaster or a viewer, it's worth a specific conversation about what they might encounter and who might be watching.
