The app for independent voices

Barbara, thanks for the link. I've heard about what they are doing, and I am hopeful that they will be vigorous in their efforts. In addition to dealing with the 2025 business, I wish the Democrats would express their most progressive vision for a long-term sustainable future here on Earth. I understand that we don't wish to upset the frail sensibilities of those who wish to live in an eternal present day where nothing ever changes. But there are some things that need to be changed, and which are within our power to change. For example, there are about 12 or 13 million American citizens living at or below the poverty level. Yet we are allegedly the wealthiest nation on the planet. The "wealth equation" is vastly out of balance. I wish the Democrats would talk about that. For decades, as far as I can see, the debate among the Democrats is whether to say what we really want, and then to have the conservatives use that against us, with shouts of "Socialism!" or "Communism!" -- or take a stance just slightly to the left of center, so that nobody will get all excited about making changes in our everyday lives. The Democrats allowed the political center to shift to the right ever since the days of William F. Buckley's "Firing Line" in the early 1950s. If you read President Nixon's State of the Union speech for 1972, he crows about creating the Environmental Protection Agency, and signing the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts. We can continue to move the center back toward the Left. We should not be timid. The conservative right has lost all credibility, so it should not matter what they say about the Democrats. The Democrats are much better about knowing what needs to be done for our fellow Americans. President Biden has done more for this cause than any President I've known in my 76 years -- maybe President Johnson is a contender. President Kennedy made an admirable effort. I don't know what to say about William Jefferson Clinton or Barack Obama. I liked President Carter then, and now. Joe Biden is moving mountains. Bernie would have been more to my liking, but it's impossible to say what he would have accomplished as President.
