I don't believe in synchronicity, although I can certainly see the attractiveness of the concept.

My seminal experience about coincidence was driving from Lexington MA to Palo Alto, CA, at the end of the summer before my senior year of high school, where my parents were going to be visiting scholars at Stanford. There were several kids in my Palo Alto high school from Lexington. I knew, instinctively, that had we spent my senior year in Schenectady, or Omaha, or Cheyenne, towns I drove through on my way west, I wouldn't have encountered anyone from Lexington, and it dawned on me that Palo Alto and Lexington had a high population of professors in common.
