The immune system does not function on all four cylinders without adequate vitamin D, and in MS, the immune system malfunctions and starts attacking the central nervous system.
People with low vitamin D also get sick much more often. I began taking large doses of D in '04, and I've hardly had any colds or flu since then. Same with my two siblings. (I take 5000 IU 4x/week.) And studies of COVID patients have shown that those with low levels of vitamin D have had worse cases than those with ample D (at least 40ng/ml in the blood).
