Recovery as spiritual journey:

First you desperately seek an object to bring you happiness, then, after many face plants, you realize no object can do that, so you stop running and finally face what is, where healing and recovery begin, but then, confronted by your naked wounds without your familiar escape hatch, that too becomes a chase, a far subtler, healthier one, trading drugs for meetings, therapy, meditation, or psychedelics, until eventually you realize that all along you were really just yearning for the seeking itself to end, your impulse to be free has matured, and you're ready to surrender all your addictions, even the spiritual ones, to come home to the freedom already waiting in the deep heart.
