To make this concrete: There is a strong possibility that in only a few years, the UK, France, and German will all be ruled by far right parties deeply entangled with Trump and Putin. The European Union would be in grave danger. So would liberal democracy. And the division of the world into three spheres, each dominated by one of three authoritarian thugs — Trump, Putin, and Xi — would be close to accomplished.

We stand at the cliff’s edge.

Liberal democracy is in greater danger than at any time since the 1930s.

Politicians and pundits who say the same things they were saying in 2015 should be automatically dismissed. The world has changed profoundly. We must understand that and respond accordingly or we could lose everything we hold dear.
