a friend should come up with money and get family out, ASAP. it is not going to get better - this is one of the current fault lines in the war between G7 and rest of the world. Even if the violence stops tomorrow, 'Ukraine' is a country is dead, economy is gone, productive assets are all left for Russia (with great joy), ten million people gone and no future. That would mean for very desperate time for survivors , collapse on any territory not lucky enough to convince Russia to take them on (took Donbass 8+ years). Last place on Earth you want to be, desperate time lead to desperate men and isolated little villages (where help is unlikely to come) become actually one of the more dangerous places to be especially without our own men (family) around to protect you. Speaking from experience of going through civil war, remote/isolated places are among most dangerous as no one would help you should it be needed. Get them out, drag them out if you have to.
