It's either that (identity war used as a distraction from class rule)....or it's the other way around (class aggro used as a distraction from identity war). Supra-national identity war was extant before modern capitalism even existed. We know what the Constantinople Sanhedrin advised the persecuted, Spanish Jews to do in the middle-ages (pretend convert, infiltrate, get revenge). There was even an open letter to the Hebrews by a Roman emperor essentially saying 'stop interfering in the affairs of other countries or else'. Kissinger said it plainly: 'It's the Jews versus the non-Jews'. Perhaps this circle can be squared by saying that the earlier Talmudic, chauvinist conspiracy morphed into a plainer class conspiracy that jettisoned identity for purely agnostic (or perhaps transhumanist) plutocracy. I just don't see much to support it. Until I hear a better explanation, I have to assume that capitalism is just another of the numerous tricks the Pharisees have played on humanity forever.
