"I put such extremisms as 'impending nuclear suicide' down to a mixture of these delusions" That's because you haven't educated yourself on the reality of the epically huge nuclear war infrastructures that are currently deployed by the US, Russia and China, and followed by less huge but still extremely dangerous infrastructures developed and deployed by the UK, France, Israel, India, Pakistan, and North Korea.

Much of that reality for the US has been declassified and can be learned by those who bother to read the declassified reports and the books which summarize and explain them for a lay audience, with less information but nonetheless informative information for Russia and the other powers. Because you haven't read those reports or books you don't know the key details of the hair-trigger launch status for thousands of warheads, the very many people who can initiate a full scale war without getting approval from anybody else, or the well known and well understood catastrophic effects of their use.

This isn't fantasy or speculation. Thousands of nuclear explosions have been set off on Earth, most of them underground but over 800 of them in the open atmosphere, at or below ground level for deliberate cratering tests, in the oceans, and in space. Trillions of dollars have been spent to develop a huge body of knowledge covering every last detail of the effects of those weapons, from very small ones to those which can, and have, vaporized entire islands leaving craters almost a mile wide.

But you haven't read up on that so for you it's something you can dismiss as a delusion. I know you haven't read up on that because if you had you wouldn't dismiss the extreme risk of an extinction event for our civilization with the words you used. In your other posts you're a sensible person: if you educated yourself on this particularly dread subject you'd be posting sensible comments on it as well. None of that is something you cannot understand. All of it is within the power of a person of average intelligence to understand, if they make the effort to educate themselves on the matter.

I repeat again: this isn't about class warfare or something where the horrific physics of the matter can be assessed or dismissed by reasoning from Marxist theory because someone is too lazy to bother to educate themselves on it. It's hard core reality, the engineering of many thousands of incredibly lethal devices and the systems functioning of hundreds of thousands of people who wake up and go to work in shifts to ensure that at every moment of every day those devices are poised and ready to kill billions of people on a few minutes notice. They practice that every day and they've gotten very good at making sure that if and when the time comes, the weapons they control will do the job.
