Believing that the public face of US politics reflects the actual will of the people is an error. You'd believe Trump was a hated person otherwise, only amongst a Venn distribution that is inclusive of knee-jerk Israel supporters and a slice of the Palestinian support, but not even 35% of the electorate.

Most of the Republican Israel support is driven by evangelical beliefs in Armageddon. Whatever those beliefs, it isn't a suicide pact for the vast majority. When pressed to drink the kool-aid, most will bow out.
