Looked at through this timeline, think what you will of the methods, but they appear to have already yielded results that are beneficial to US security and regional trade interests. You say that the current administration is out of its depth. However it is a slew of previous administrations that have let our palpable interest in the Panama Canal backslide to the extent that Panama joined Chinas belt and road initiative.
