45 years ago when my husband and I were newly engaged an acquaintance of his invited us to an informal "opportunity" which with the secretive nature I thought might be a surprise party for us. Well, it was a surprise alright-an Amway "party"! I was a newly minted MBA and stock analyst and immediately said this is BS and a pyramid scheme (we left).
