Going back through some old essays, the amount of times I reference this brief post surprises me still. Today, outside of a core semi-published essay from 2024 I will revise and share here soon, I am thinking of Norbert Wiener (and others), writing in the ~1950s, and what vantage point was available therein. Vantage points seen-from, and also those which-could-be-reached.
Some of what I will be writing about more ahead will be a body of work around such vantage points, related ability to perceive or identify them, the craft and labor of building them out or having them “speak” to one another, among other ways of interacting with them.

On a side note, I am heartened that the history & philosophy of science posting at JOPRO has received some attention, and am once again heartened by the quality of people’s interests and experiences. Many are looking for what to do, and where (and how) to place their efforts well. We can build (new/better/updated) tools, Language, Models, Artifacts, to make this more tenable. Some of that ties back to Levin’s insight here.
