moral intuitions are like Anamorphic sculptures. many anti-realist claim, and maybe honestly so, that they don’t see any apparent stance independent irreducibly normative intuitions. but, i claim, they are simply failing to See Clearly. meditation is full of insights like this: truths staring at us in the face but which we cannot See until we See things from the right perspective whereby everything suddenly snaps into place
The existence of such sculptures can be independently corroborated by our ordinary means of perception. There is no comparable evidence to corroboration the existence or efficacy of “moral intuitions” for detecting truths. What Christian and others are advocating for amounts to pseudoscience at best, and magic or mysticism at worst.
Meditation is not full of “insights” like this. This is madness. And it isn’t Sparta.
