This is just a semantics issue. If Pence had been terrifed into submission by Trump's mob, and refused to certify some electoral votes on 1/6, and Trump ultimately prevailed on a 5-4 decision by the Supreme Court (with three of his appointed lackeys voting on his side), would that have been a coup? Not by your definition, sure, but so what?
