I grew up in The Dalles, Oregon and mine was the first class of the Baby Boom. World History and US History alternated every year through jr high and high school. Oregon History was 4th grade. Each year we started at the beginning; World History started at the "fertile cresent" and US history started at the Mayflower. We never got anywhere near modern Day. No First World War, no Second World War. It was a pretty crappy excuse for education. A small town in Oregon seldom attracted top flight teachers.
However. My mother was a reader. She subscribed to The New Yorker and some now defunct political quarterly journals. I am my mother's daughter.
