One thing I have always wanted to look into is the timing of the deforestation of the mountains of Afghanistan, in relationship to impacts on human migration patterns elsewhere. Did this occur about the same time that the residents of Chaco canyon were forced to abandon their homes and way of life halfway around the globe? I think more scholarship into the relationships between human migration patterns and global weather events would be very helpful in understanding the current situation, don’t you? What patterns have you noticed during your decades of research?
