Bill Katz - your claim that "Biden interrupted the restraints put in place by Trump" is a distortion of fact. Trump used Title 42 -- an EMERGENCY public health order -- to close the border. When the US lifted the COVID-19 national restrictions, Biden could no longer use Title 42. That meant that the CBP could resume processing applications for asylum. It also meant that the inhumane encampments at the border could begin to be dismantled.

We don't have "open borders." We have seriously underfunded border control systems that cannot handle the influx of desperate people seeking a better life free from fear and deprivation.

It doesn't have to be this way. But every serious attempt to deal with immigration has been blocked in Congress. Most recently the bipartisan Senate immigration bill would have provided funding for staff and equipment Trump blocked it. Not because it was a bad bill but because he wanted to deprive President Biden of the "win" on an issue that has plagued this nation for years. Shorter: immigration has been a political football for decades. But, despite that, we do not have OPEN BORDERS!
