I read a great article this morning in AIER about classic liberalism. I've always called myself a libertarian/conservative but truth be told, I'm a classic liberal. John Locke. Natural rights exist. I may not agree with some people's decisions, but if they are adults, it's their decision to make. (Of course, I will debate with people who are making decisions that I think will ultimately impact me and mine, but debate is good!) Right now I think one of the greatest threats (other than censorship) is indoctrinating children in schools. If they are indoctrinated, they can't possibly make informed decisions as adults. (I see it happening -- my daughter is studying elementary education and her classes are not on reading, writing, arithmetic, but on social justice and diversity. She had wanted to teach at an inner city school because she believes education saves people from poverty, but now she says she'll probably have to teach at a private or charter school because she won't integrate CRT into her curriculum.)
