Actually, I disagree with your assessment of President Biden's motives in his negating many of the Trump border policies. I do not think he intended to snub Trump, tempting as that would be. At that time, the newly elected President was trying to cobble together a workable coalition.

That coalition sought to unify diverse segments of the Democratic Party. These actions were non-negotiables for one segment; many of the rest of us found them to be cruel. The consequences have differed from what we had hoped, but that does not change the basic policy pragmatism.

Additionally, an immigration lawyer who has consulted leaders from both Parties in Tejas -- indicating that he is a straight-shooter -- has observed that by constantly screaming about the "open border", Republicans, have, in effect, announced to the world that now is the time to head to the U.S. without documents.

😳

Whether the G.O.P. demagogy be cause or exacerbation, whatever disaster has really taken place at the border is a bi-partisan effort. I do not understand why Democrats do not make this an issue: 'Republicans have contributed to this crisis for their interests and not those of immigrants or American citizens.'
