I understand perfectly, but it was very clever to hijack an existing party, with a respectable name... the party of Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt.

People vote for a name and tend to support whatever policies are currently being pursued under that name. This is stupid, but... ignorance combined with blind belief make for stupid politics...
