The Agusan image, a golden statue of a female deity from the Philippines, dates to the 9th-10th century AD.

Scholars are divided on the figure’s identity.

Some suggest she is Shakti, the Hindu goddess, and others suggest she is Tara, the Buddhist Mahayana deity.

Recent scholarship suggests she could be Vajralāsyā, a Vajrayana Buddhist deity.

In the Philippines, the statue is called the Golden Tara.

It weighs 2 kg and is made of 21-karat gold, about 7" in height. It was discovered in 1917 on the banks of the Wawa River.
