Well, you're simply wrong about me, but you will think what you must, I suppose. At no point did I say I was resigning myself to defeat; on the contrary, I am saying that we must recognize our position so that we can adequately defend it. As for Trump, he lost because he was a crude, loutish, profane, misogynistic idiot who had just killed hundreds of thousands of people with his criminal irresponsibility toward Covid; a more capable authoritarian would almost certainly have won. We must never forget that he got the second highest vote total of any presidential candidate ever. There is no indication whatsoever that this country is ready to do away with these fascists quite yet. I agree about the demographics, though, and as long as young people keep voting (a big if), we have a fighting chance. But pie-in-the-sky notions of our progressive vanguard sweeping us into victory only set us up for failure, in my opinion, and leaves us ill-prepared for reality.
