I have graduate degrees in history and political science and have followed American politics closely for decades. One thing has become clear, it does not matter what the American people think when it comes to support for Israel. The reason is that politicians can't be elected, or reelected, unless they have the Israeli lobbies in the country and the MSM, which is totally controlled by Jews, supporting them. For example, there is not one candidate for president running right now who is not extremely pro Israel, in spite of what they are doing in Gaza, which is certainly not in the interest of the US. When all candidates for office are supporting Israel, the voters have to use a different criterion for choosing one over the other.
