Boatload indeed. 74M people voted for Trump, almost all of them as an expression of white grievance or, put another way to preserve systemic advantages for white people, or, looking from the other end, to continue systemic oppression of people of nonEuropean ancestry. Those voters are anti-education, anti-science luddites that the US, and the world for that matter, would be better off without. Even if by some miracle we manage to outvote them, despite their dilligent and highly effective vote suppression efforts, they will still be with us, still wreaking havoc, still practicing stochastic terrorism (that is, dredging for the lunatics among them to commit mass murders and targeted assignations). This has been going on for a couple hundred years, but they know they have to step it up now because of changing demographics and the decrease of stone cold racism in the white population from 90% in, say, the 1950s to 60% now, which is just barely enough for them to maintain control. If it drops to 50% in genZ and beyond, white supremacists will be hopelessly outnumbered and will have to maintain control through authoritarian government. This is what drives US politics and what it will require monumental effort by the rest of us, plus a lot of good luck, to avoid.
