Yes, the obscenely wealthy are running the show. They get the votes to do that by playing on the grievances of the white working class. Presently, those who are running the show are making sure they will continue to do so even when it is impossible for them to milk enough votes from the white working class to stay in power without anything close to a majority in the electorate in their corner. They have done that in the South, of course, since about ten years after they dredged up a lunatic to murder Lincoln. Now, they are doing it in a majority of states.
