the media is dead pieces are frustrating (and at this point lame) because media isn’t dead, it’s broken and none of these pieces offer any solutions or ideas in how to fix it. we need the media to exist, we need literacy, we need to be informed. a more interesting conversation is how can we fix this? and i don’t mean launching a substack, a podcast, or using “ai” lmao that’s not a viable, sustainable, or infrastructural solution, and i think we can dream bigger. in the same way we need better societal systems, we need better systems for the media and journalism. and, right now it is too much about the individual still focused on upholding those systems, not the collective focused on changing it. deciding something is dead is just…so defeatist and nihilistic. so isn’t it a better question to ask — how we would like the media to be?
