ICE agent shoots dead ICU Nurse in broad daylight at point blank range - bystander Alex Pretti was tear gassed and shot at nine times as he tried to help two women being intimidated by ICE agents..

The 37 year old man shot dead earlier today by ICE in Minnesota has been identified as Alex Pretti.

Alex was a U.S. citizen, an ICU nurse, a man whose working life was spent keeping people alive at their most vulnerable.

He showed up to observe. He carried a phone to film ICE agents, holding it delicately in landscape mode, he was wearing thick gloves.

He stepped into help two women who were violently shoved by a ICE agent.

The agent tear gassed several bystanders in their eyes. Alex appeared to slip on the street, three ICE agents landed blows to his body and his head like a pack. Another ICE agent seemed to search frantically and then ran away from the scene, kicking an emptied tear gas canister as another ice agents tear gassed bystanders. And then another pulled out a gun and shot Alex nine times as he lay on the ground.

Alex worked at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System. He treated the sick, the injured, and veterans who trusted him with their lives.

His family describe a man who cared deeply about others and who opposed the cruelty he was seeing inflicted in his city.

His father said Alex was upset by what he saw happening in Minneapolis and around the United States with federal immigration enforcement.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed adventures with his dog, a Catahoula Leopard dog named Joule, who also recently died, according to his father.

He was born in Illinois and was a graduate of the University of Minnesota.

Family and neighbors remembered him as kindhearted, committed to social justice, and passionate about helping marginalised people.

Other personal interests mentioned include that he enjoyed cycling and had a concern for environmental issues.

Alex participated in protests following the killing of Becca Good by a federal immigration officer earlier in January 2026.

Shots were fired within seconds. There was no deescalation. As is normal with ice, escalation appears to be the goal. There was no restraint or attempt to preserve life.
