We’re right now in the midst of the single largest serial killer mass murder campaign against journalists in human history.
More than 300 Palestinian media workers have been killed, many of them intentionally. They’ve been assassinated. The entire thing is about dehumanising both Iran and the Palestinians. It’s an inversion of reality.
Much of the Western media falls into two categories. Either they participate in a demonisation narrative.
They say, “Oh, well, this journalist was Hamas.” In this war, doctors are Hamas, hospitals are Hamas headquarters, mosques are Hamas, children are Hamas. The United Nations even was Hamas in the narrative of the Israelis. But there’s also, in some ways, a more devastating and dangerous category. Most major Western news organizations have said absolutely nothing about the mass killing of our Palestinian journalistic colleagues.
Oh, at the end of the day, these huge media organizations, their monopoly on the dissemination of information has been shattered. They’re in the biggest crisis that they’ve ever been in because independent journalism is rising and spreading. But also, if you just look at Gaza as an example, Palestinians, by filming the genocide of their own people, served as the eyes and ears of the world, and these powerful media corporations no longer had the power to filter any of it.
The perception of Israel and the broader Zionist project has never been in a greater crisis. I think that one of our core responsibilities when the United States is facilitating wars around the world is to go to the other side of the gun, the American gun, that is pointed at the rest of the world and interview the people that live on the other side of it.
