It is very hard to get time off. I was only able to take one week this summer. My time off, I really need to recharge. I work in healthcare and the demands of the profession are very draining. Additionally, our hospital has been acquired by a larger corporate entity that has instituted a large number of rules regarding public statements and conduct, particularly in regard to the current pandemic. We still have to report any proposed travel outside the state. While I still require a paycheck to meet the demands of living, I will have to be content to make phone calls and write letters. There was a period years ago when I was home with my son and we were able to go to rallies in DC etc. That is not an option currently. Additionally, the violence in the streets last summer would have caused me to opt out. Destruction of public and private property is not "nonviolent" protest in my view. Also, I don't want to be victim to pepperspray, flashbangs, billy clubs or rubber bullets. If that makes me a coward, so be it. I am a 56 year old lady with a bad back and limited work life, maybe I can get ten more years, maybe not.
