The huge importance of war to the US economy and its domination of federal spending at the great expense of the American people does not mean the US has a very effective military. Given the enormous amount of money spent, it HAS to be somewhat effective but it is wasteful and inefficient and corrupt on a scale few foreigners could imagine. It is a gigantic parasitic welfare queen.
