The right has a LONNNGGG history of it, from McCarthy to Nixon to the "moral majority" and the PMRC that involved tons of covert activity as well as attempts at outright censorship. I guess I'm saying they initiated the tactics to some degree. but aside from McCarthyism, though, none of it really seemed to gain much traction in the wider culture. Cancel culture by the left is honestly way worse than anything the right has ever done and is literally part of a wider surveillance state that has vast implications for human freedom in the future. Indeed--I would argue that lockdowns came hand in hand with the tech censorship.
