They did impeach him (2 articles), but predictably, the Senate didn't vote to remove. I believe the rhetoric of "by any means necessary" that preceded the House investigation was unhelpful. The junior House Democrats spent much of their time demanding impeachment for less clearly impeachable offenses—or Trump simply being bad at the job—only to be reined back by Pelosi. Add all the jockeying over midterm election optics which added to the perception by some that the reasons were merely political, rather than conscientious. I understand that impeachment is, ultimately, a political tool, but undermining their position by insisting that the end is a forgone conclusion and one intends to send articles whatever the investigation yields, before any investigation... I believe that's bad politicking.
