The app for independent voices

I just want to say thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement, both personally and in these social media streets. So very proud of The Reidout @joy.msnbc.com team, who are truly family, and all of our supporters & friends. See you tomorrow night at 7 ET, one more time ‼️

Hey Friends, I’m here of Substack, and here is why I decided to leave MSNBC and go 100% independent with all my content.

Substack Launch: Let's do this!

Had our first un-subscribe this evening. I accept that I and/or this format will not be everyone’s cup of tea and I respect that. I also respect that they at least gave this a try!

You made it, you own it

You always own your intellectual property, mailing list, and subscriber payments. With full editorial control and no gatekeepers, you can do the work you most believe in.

Contrary to what some in the far-right echo chamber have been saying this week, I have not been silenced. I’m right here folks. And I am ready to get started!

Great discussions

A little composition of the whimsy wonderful things I’ve acquired so far this month!

Hi everyone, I have a request for you all.

Please follow my page as much as possible. I get my information directly from my CDC sources some were sadly fired last week, but others remain inside, risking everything to keep me informed about Bird Flu.

I report on Bird Flu, COVID-19, Tuberculosis, Measles, and other infectious diseases.

Stay informed and share for public health awareness.

Full disclosure: feeling very burnt out tonight.

After 3+ months of reporting the news 24/7, I think it finally got to me a bit and put me in the not so greatest head space.

Cancelling our live tonight, and rescheduling it for tomorrow or Friday (TBD). Thank you all for your support and for the community we are building here. I will see you in the morning for a morning update.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Just posted something on how I’m thinking about the path before us. Looking forward to reading your thoughts and ideas.

I’m no constitutional law scholar, but shouldn’t the Democratic members of congress be filing for restraining orders to stop each of the illegal (meaning contrary to the constitution or federal statutes) acts of Trump or his proxies? Why are they leaving it to the states and individual citizens?

World-class writing

The best stories, ideas, and culture right at your fingertips.

I heard someone compare Trump’s mass firings to him being a bull in a china shop. I disagree.

Trump is a like a bull in a VA hospital.

Trump is like a bull in an assisted living facility.

Trump is like a bull in an Alzheimer’s research center.

Trump is like a bull in a NICU.

A bull in a china shop breaks things.

Trump is breaking . . . people.

I am humbled by the support already being shown by the MOV community on my new efforts here on Substack. I have a huge but I believe attainable goal of 5,000 subs with 10% of them being paid. I once had a Facebook page of 96,000 follows…so I think a little over 5% of that number is realistic for this. Keep on keeping on and keep sharing! :)

Trump is surrendering America. Trump is the opposite of strong. He is a tiny, weak, small, scared, trembling, sissy, husk of a man. There is nothing manly about his fat, sweaty, smelly, gross, makeup'ed self An absolute joke

I'm sorry, but I'll be the one to say it: JASMINE CROCKETT needs to be Speaker of the House. I'm done with these Democrats giving the same nonchalant answers. We are losing our democracy. We need leaders who arent SCARED! Like if you agree with me.

Grow Your Audience

Marketing isn’t all on your shoulders. More than 50% of all new free subscriptions and 25% of paid subscriptions come from within our network.

Regardless of RFK Jr being confirmed as HHS secretary, I will continue to provide evidence based health education on social media. We need more helpers now more than ever.

Jeff Bezos’ decision today to regulate the Washington Post opinion column is exactly what is wrong with mainstream media.

Media owned by billionaires who control editorial decisions fails the American people.

I’m grateful to have this platform on Substack. This is the future of independent media. We will not back down.

I’m sorry to report the passing of Roberta Flack, who leaves us at age 88. She had a glorious—but all-too-short—run of hits back in the day. Flack achieved stardom, but I still don’t think she got her due.

“Where Is the Love” is my favorite of her hit singles. It features a very soulful vocal duet with Donny Hathaway—who tragically took his own life at age 33.

I prefer to remember both of these artists at their happiest and at their peak. I wish they had made more music together. I miss them both.

This was the best album I ever stole from my parents

They’re back together again 😊

Definitely a case of less being more vocally. Wish we had a few more like her today.

She was hugely underrated. This one is my personal favourite:

The more things a person can let go of, the wealthier they become.

——Walden (written by Henry David Thoreau)

One of the best 😢

I love this song. It's on my gardening playlist

Listening to Flack’s version of “Ballad of the Sad Young Men” on the “First Take” album is almost like being able to slow down the passage of time long enough to experience a very special act of (re)creation.
