You are missing the point. There is not a large quantity of conservatives at most universities, but those that do exist tend to be a bit more extreme than most conservatives elsewhere. The student population is a bit more mixed, but become influenced by those more extreme elements and thus those elements become more influential. Quantity != influential. In fact, quantity may be a deluding factor at a university.
