Americans have been thoroughly "Hollywooded". We like a nicely wrapped narrative and the guy in the white hat to deliver it. The only people who can salvage America are Americans. It's past the time, but it's going to have to get much worse before the majority realizes we will be irreversibly fucked.

I will probably vote for Trump just cuz our politics have degraded into a "Banana Republic" telenovela. He may have even learned from past errors and enter DC with a flame thrower on his back and a six-shooter in each hand gunning down swamp creatures as he walks to the stand to be sworn in.
