The app for independent voices

Sure. In the first place my comment was a question that is not yet answered, but I’ll enlarge. First, you argue that a candidate’s competency is irrelevant, it’s his intent that matters. I have never argued that Biden’s incompetent. I believe, though, that his chances of re-election are slim and getting worse.

Nor do I disagree that his intentions are fine and Trump’s are craven and evil.

I saw that horrible performance of a debate. He was slack-jawed, incoherent and rhetorically defenseless. That painful interview last night was not much improved from there. It was like watching Joe Namath play for the Rams in 1977.

I still don’t think he is incompetent. But he may be unelectable. Now, I realize that someone needs a huge ego to get elected. But that ego is often hard to turn off. Watching an 80+ year-old man mutter breathlessly that he’s the only one that can do the job is painful.

I think (realizing I have no more special knowledge than anybody in these comments) our best bet to beat Trump is for Biden to step aside and enthusiastically support Harris.

If Biden persists, I’ll do what I always do: write postcards, door-knock, text and phone-bank, and donate. But I think we’ll miss turnout numbers and lose.
