PLEDGING TO PROTECT SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE
Republicans are insisting on a balanced budget within 10 years without raising taxes or they’ll force a calamitous debt default, something that would be nearly impossible to accomplish without the cuts to Social Security and Medicare many of them have threatened. This is a time when we need Democrats to stand firm. Social Security Works, More Perfect Union, the PCCC, MoveOn and Indivisible are joining together to ask members of Congress to pledge to never vote for Social Security or Medicare cuts under any circumstances. Let’s check their website to see if our members have taken the pledge yet, and then contact them to insist they sign on.
VOTING
The Right Question Institute has developed resources designed to help people who are hesitant voters discover for themselves the value of voting. RQI is available to partner with social service agencies, schools, and community and civic organizations in the use of its “Why Vote?” Tool—and anyone can access its resources for free. As we work to mobilize voters, let’s take advantage of these resources.
EXECUTIVE ACTION FOR RAILROAD WORKERS
Just weeks after courting a strike by refusing to extend paid sick days to their workers, Union Pacific Railroad reported record earnings for 2022. They’ve also spent $6.3 billion on stock buybacks. Numerous congressional Democrats have called on the White House to require the railroads to provide sick leave to their employees as federal contractors, and this move seems overdue. Let’s stand with the workers and tell President Biden we want him to issue this executive order.
2023 INDIVISIBLE GUIDE
The new 2023 Practical Guide to Defeating MAGA is out from Indivisible.org, the "grassroots movement of thousands of local Indivisible groups with a mission to elect progressive leaders, rebuild our democracy, and defeat the Trump agenda." We can read the guide here and share it with our groups.
COVID EMERGENCY MEASURES
President Biden has announced that the COVID emergency measures in place since 2020 will end this May, putting a stop to important benefits for many Americans. Yet every week, we see nearly 300,000 new cases, nearly 4,000 new deaths, nearly 4,000 hospital admissions, and long COVID remains a scourge. Let’s tell the President and Congress to extend the COVID emergency declaration.
I am making Rogan's List a routine stop in my daily online research for posts to my Facebook page, and urging my friends and followers to follow you. Hopefully, some of my followers will recognize the valuable resource you are providing and subscribe as well. The public needs alternatives to the regular news and political info sources, and yours provides information they can take action on. Thanks for your work! It's great to find others who are trying to motivate the general public to get more involved in the political process. Hope you're around for a long time!!
My original reason for subscribing to Rogan’s List was to be up on the latest actions of various environmentally-related government agencies and departments, but I’m not seeing much of that. I’m hoping you can include more environmental actions we can take. Thanks for your work.
