Briefly Noted: Turley On The 'Legally Pathetic' Trump Case; America's Declining World Standing
As I said yesterday, I’m not really interested in the political prosecution of President Trump—not from a legal standpoint which, as Professor Turley says, is simply pathetic. For those who are looking for a simple explanation why this is a strictly political event, FR has an extended quote from a video of Turley discussing it. No real legal expertise required to grok what’s going on:
Jonathan Turley Warns Alvin Bragg Judges Will Not Like His “Legally Pathetic” Case Against Trump
SLAY ^ | March 31, 2023 - 8:36 am | David HawkinsGeorge Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley warned Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg that New York judges, especially at the Appellate level, will not like his case against Trump.
He said: “This indictment, if it is reportedly following the theory that we’ve been talking about, is political. It’s a raw political prosecution. The indictment may come out with a crime that none of us have heard of.
“But for many months, this bootstrapping theory has been put out there, this idea that you could take a misdemeanor under New York law that has expired, that has a two year statute of limitations, and revive it by connecting it to a federal crime, in this case, the federal election violation
“Now, there’s a host of problems with that.
“First of all, it’s a federal crime the Department of Justice chose not to prosecute.
“Bragg’s own predecessor declined to prosecute it, but he is attempting to bootstrap that federal crime into a state case.
“And if that is the basis for the indictment, I think it’s rather outrageous.
“I think it’s legally pathetic.
“If he’s using the bootstrap theory, which is the only one that’s been discussed publicly, that is unprecedented.
“And I expect that New York judges will have the same reaction of many of us, including people on the left, that this doesn’t read right.
“Under Bragg’s theory, he could take any unproven federal crime and revive a long dead misdemeanor and turn it into a felony.
“That’s going to really, you know, raise concerns for a number of judges.
“But once it gets to the appellate level, he’s going to have a particularly difficult time, in my view,” he said.

This marks the ongoing implosion of the rule of law in America. That’s all. It’s the goal of the Left, and we’ve seen this with the Soros DAs, with the federal governments open border policy, with the entire Covid Regime and the disgraceful abdication of our courts, and in too many other cases to name. It marks the implosion of our constitutional order, which the the collapse of legitimate elections has made clear is coming.
So now let’s shift to national security and foreign policy, because it all flows—theoretically—from our constitutional order. The good news, I guess, is that the Senate has voted to to end the authorization for use of military force that’s been in effect for two decades. Does this mark a return of sorts to constitutional government, is there hope? Time will tell.
I’m simply going to embed to videos. The first is Judge Napolitano speaking with Alistair Crooke, and it’s just 24 minutes in length. What I think comes through in this discussion is that America’s standing in the world is being exposed as resting on raw power—military and monetary—and that foundation is rapidly eroding. Crooke, a specialist in Islamic issues begins with a discussion of the extraordinarily rapid transformation of the politics of the Middle East, which he attributes to the exclusion of America from the negotiations. This tweet from Glenn Diesen sums up Crooke’s view, as well:
I’ll follow that up with a much longer Youtube featuring Ania K speaking with The Duran guys. Ania is concerned about the US influence on Poland. Her concern is that that influence, which has drawn Poland into the American global hegemonistic orbit, is destroying the moral fabric of Polish politics. For example, she discusses Polish complicity—bribed by the Dubya regime—in the torture (“renditioning”) of prisoners. She moves on to the corruption of the Polish government through its long involvment in Ukraine, under the influence of America. Alexander Mercouris adds his own perspective on British life, economics, and politics, and the corrupting influence of the British empire—beginning in the laste 19th century and with effects that continue to this day. He compares the resulting oligarchy with American politics, and the destruction of democratic and republican government in the West.
Briefly Noted: Turley On The 'Legally Pathetic' Trump Case; America's Declining World Standing
The US used to have credibility with a Legal System that was seen worldwide as something that could be overall trusted and emulated.
If the US can treat a former President this way, what world leader would trust the US?
Our elections are now seen as a joke.
Our moral high ground, we kinda use to have, is gone. Jan 6 Prisoner 800 days without a trial? Capital building surrounded by barbed wire? Sanctions left and right. Requiring banks in any country with US customers, to hand over their banking info. Using US Law around the world against Bribery. The pushing world wide of the LGBT agenda by the US is amazing. The support of color revolutions around the world. The West has destroyed the perception of financial safety / trust, with the seizure of Russian Oligarch Assets, and Central Bank Reserves. This was not even done in either World War!
This sentence resonates with me:
"America’s standing in the world is being exposed as resting on raw power—military and monetary"
And Emerald Robinson has a tweet, I agree with unfortunately.
"Lots of GOP politicians will claim they’re upset about the indictment of President Trump today — and the question is: are you dumb enough to believe them?
The GOP will likely do nothing — based on their previous record of doing nothing."

And the guy, Douglass Mackey, that did a meme against Hillary, got convicted. And could face 10 years in Prison. How dare he make fun of Hillary!

Or what of the Alex Jones Judgement of basically a Billion Dollars? How dare he disagree with the elites!
And what of Julian Assange, still in Prison? How dare he embarrass the elites!
I agree with Pepe Escobar's Lenin's Quote:
“there are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen”
Lots going on.
This whole escapade is so tawdry and infuriating, particularly the part where Bragg tries to claim the moral high ground with all the rubbish about the rule of law and that his office won’t be intimidated and justice will not be subverted. As James J. Kilpatrick used to say, “ balderdash!”
We’re starting to make Banana Republics look like bastions of judicial restraint and probity.
